
The AMA-IE just held a successful conference on digital media marketing. This event which was co-sponsored by UCR Extension featured keynote speakers from Google and eBay as well as local marketing experts. The topics raised by our presenters are timely information that will benefit anyone who is interested in the latest digital media trends in general and user experience in particular.

Prakash Chandran-Google
A California native, Prakash grew up in Malibu and has always loved computers and computer games. During high school, he co-founded started a web company called AstralFX and also worked part time at a small computer software company called Goldram Communications.
After graduating high school in 1999, he attended Cal Poly Pomona to pursue a degree in Technology and Operations Management. He spent his summers in Santa Barbara working at a web company called Expertcity (later GoToMyPC then acquired by Citrix) doing QA and design.
In the last two years of college, he taught professors how to design websites for themselves and designed a few of Cal Poly's sister school sites.
After graduating college in 2004, he was asked to join a small struggling software company called Picasa as a visual designer. After working there for almost six months, Google acquired them.
Over the next 7.5 years he worked on a number of different products for Google which began with the continued visual design of Picasa and Picasa Web Albums (Picasa's web counterpart).
He subsequently moved on to become the lead designer for Google Calendar and was also a member of the Gmail+ team which covered designing various features within the Gmail app.
He ascended to working for Google's Enterprise group which handles promoting Google Apps as a competitive replacement for Microsoft's productive suite of apps. On this team he worked with almost every product in Google's product suite and after about a year and a half was promoted to team lead. Prakash was the lead for the Enterprise design and research team at Google which included managing a cross continental team of 15. He recently left Google to start his own company to help businesses connect more transparently with their customers
Sashee Chandran-EBay
Sashee is a Marketing Manager at eBay, currently participating in the organization's first Marketing Rotation Program, a two year experience designed to equip her with cross-functional expertise across multiple marketing channels including brand marketing, email marketing, social marketing, and internet marketing.
Sashee has been in the market research industry for nearly five years, leading customer focused research at eBay. Before her current stint at eBay, Sashee started her own research company, Inscite Research, which solved the customer needs of both small businesses and world-class organizations like Disney Interactive, GameFly, and Samsung.
Sashee graduated in 2007 with a degree in Economics from UC Irvine. She also spent a year at the London School of Economics studying management.
Sashee is passionate about all tools and channels that give insight into customer needs.
Ron Burgess-CEO Red Fusion Media
Ron Burgess is a seasoned marketing consultant with decades of work with clients that dominate their market niches. His average engagement is 12 years and the longest over 21 years, where the company has grown over 1000%.
Ron has business and art degrees from the University of Colorado . He has founded three businesses and was division head for a national consulting firm where he trained 120 field consultants on small business tools and profitability. His practice was established in 1989, and co-founded Red Fusion Media which grew out of his need to support client marketing execution. Ron is the author of "Finding Your Crack In The Market," and over 100 published articles on small business marketing.
Russ Cornelius- CEO Brand Savants
During a career spanning over 30 years, working on the agency and client side, Russ has accumulated experience in developing and implementing strategic marketing initiatives for regional and national clients in health care, hospitality, retail, and financial services, as well as within various business to business sectors.
Seeing the correlation between a company's business culture and the effective execution of a company's brand, Russ founded Brand Savants. Realizing that brand development and the subsequent branding processes require companies to look inward as well as outward, and that the brand development process is a company-wide initiative, and not just a marketing initiative, Russ developed EnculturationTM, an internal brand initiative program.
Russ is one of just twenty-four Certified Brand Strategists in the country. Russ is past president of the San Diego Chapter, American Marketing Association and is currently a member of the Inland Empire American Marketing Association board.
Kelly Donovan- Principal of Kelly Donovan & Associates and Donovan Communications
Kelly Donovan is the creator of Link to Success, a series of training videos covering the use of LinkedIn in networking. A former journalist who has also worked in public relations and marketing, her current focus is career communications for executive job seekers nationwide. She has been quoted by Fast Company, MSN, and CareerBuilder, among others. Additionally, she assists marketing and PR departments with writing and editing. Kelly has a bachelor's degree in communications from the University of North Florida.
John McCarthy- Director of Marketing iHerb.com
John McCarthy is the director of marketing for iHerb.com, a leading online international retailer of health and wellness products sold directly to consumers. iHerb is listed as a top 200 property by Internet Retailer offering over 35,000 SKUs and has shipped products to 150 countries.
Prior to joining iHerb John worked for two leading digital marketing agencies for over 10 yrs. specializing in search engine optimization (SEO). His clients crossed many highly competitive verticals such as healthcare, retail, manufacturing, professional services, education, and financial services. In addition to SEO, John also as digital expertise in paid search, display advertising, remarketing, social media and mobile.
Before transitioning to digital marketing in 1999, John held traditional marketing roles as a brand manager and product marketing manager.
